  • 1. Who is behind TEDxNorwichED?

The core organising team of TEDxNorwichED is made up of 3 committed and enthusiastic teachers and school leaders who work at schools within Norfolk and Suffolk.   They also have the support of a growing 'band' of people who are helping them make TEDxNorwichED the best it can be.    As with all TEDx events, the event is organised purely as a voluntary endeavour.

In line with many TEDx events, the organisers details are being kept out of the limelight- the focus should be on the event, rather than the people behind it.

The organisers are organising the event in a personal capacity, and it is in no way linked to their employers.   The event is certainly not intended as a criticism of their employers (quite the opposite in fact)- but has been created as a reflection of the problems faced by education in East Anglia.

  • 2. Why TEDxNorwichED?

We wanted to showcase a wide range of speaekrs from across the region and further afield, all talking about education.

Often, people from the East have to travel a long way to see 'big names' speak- we waned to bring these to Norfolk, as well as showcase some of the incredible local talent, ideas and enthusiasm that we have in our region.

The aim is to create a discussion about education- what is working well and what can be improved-  all through the lens of our core theme 'Inspiring Generations'

  • 3. Is TEDxNorwichED intended to be critical?

    No, not at all.

There is no intention for TEDxNorwichED to be an event where we moan about the education system.

The intention is to create an event where education can be discussed in a open manner- without party politics or many of the other things that can often impact discussions about education.

There is no criticism of the education system in Norfolk/Suffolk, beyond that that has already been reported by the national press based on league tables etc.     But there is an intention to create an environment where we can think about how we can stop East Anglia containing some of the lowest preforming regions in the country.     We want to share best practice from the region, as well as attracting some of the 'bigger names' and un-earthing some new local enthusiasm and talent.

  • 7. Why are you charging for tickets?

We made a difficult decision to charge for tickets.  Whilst we would love the event to be free to all,  charging for tickets is necessary in order to help cover a proportion of the significant costs associated with putting on such a high profile and complex event.

The ticket price does represent excellent value for money-  for £30 you get 25 amazing speakers- many of whom would attract a fee of £200 or more if you were to go and see them at a conference.  For many of our speakers, this is one of the first times they have spoken in East Anglia.

You also  get a great networking opportunity, and the chance to be part of the conversation about how we can think differently about education.

  • 8. How can I pay for tickets?

Tickets will be available to purchase on-line using a debit or credit card, and all payments are managed by our payment provider- STRIPE.

    More
  • 9. How much will tickets cost?

    Tickets will cost just £20.

Whilst we would love for tickets to be free to everyone, charing this small amount for tickets is necessary in order to cover some of the costs associated with putting on such a high-profile event.

Attendees will get a proportion of their ticket cost back to spend in our TEDxNorwichED bookshop at the event.

  • 10. Who can buy for tickets?

Anyone!  Tickets are sales will be publicly open, and we'd love to encourage anyone who has an interest in education and improving the life chances of children to attend.

A proportion of tickets will be reserved for people living in Norfolk and Suffolk.

  • 1. How did you select your speakers?

    With great difficulty!

We had  106 1amazing and passionate applications to speak at TEDxNorwich ED.   Selection was carried out by a panel of 4 people- and took into consideration many things, including making sure topics/opinions weren't duplicated.

We also purposefully selected talks that will give a brand range of opinion- some of which will conflict with each other.

  • 2. Have speaekrs been selected to represent the organisers or partners views?

No- in fact, completely the opposite.

Speakers were selected based on their individual merit.   Speakers have purposefully been selected which have contrasting opinions to each other- we want to showcase a wide range of views and opinions.

Speakers views are their views only- and do not necessarily reflect the opinions of the organisers, their employers, or partners.
